Two New Substances Added to the REACH Candidate List

By: SiliconExpert on January 20th, 2021

On Jan 19, 2021, The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added two new substances to the Candidate List for the REACH regulation.

Substance Name:

  • Bis(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl)ether: EC Number 205-594-7 | CAS Number 143-24-8
  • Dioctyltin dilaurate, stannane, dioctyl-, bis(coco acyloxy) derivs., and any other stannane, dioctyl-, bis(fatty acyloxy) derivs. wherein C12 is the predominant carbon number of the fatty acyloxy moiety

These two new added substances are used in products such as inks, toners, plastics and rubber tires. They were added to the Candidate List because they are toxic for reproduction, sexual function, fertility and may cause developmental issues in offspring.

Companies must follow their legal obligations to ensure the safe use of these chemicals.  This includes notifying the ECHA under the Waste Framework Directive if their products contain substances of very high concern. This notification is submitted to ECHA’s SCIP database.

The Candidate List now contains 211 substances.  For the full REACH regulation candidate list, visit: https://echa.europa.eu/candidate-list-table
