February 24, 2022 – In an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19, a strict lockdown has been imposed in the Chinese city of Suzhou. Suzhou is a technological hub and key manufacturing location for semiconductors. Home to manufacturing facilities for several global firms including Samsung, Bosch, Eli Lily, UMC, and others, the shutdown of the Suzhou Industrial Park will likely compound an already critical global supply chain chip shortage.
Production at all the major semiconductor manufacturers located within the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park has ground to a halt. The COVID-19 lockdown has forced operations at the following businesses to be suspended until local authorities lift the restrictions.
- HeJian Technology Corp
- United Microelectronics Corp (UMC)
- BOSCH
- Eli Lily
- Samsung
And many more…
The partial lockdown of the city and mass testing efforts are all part of China’s “zero tolerance” policy towards Covid-19, which seeks to completely eliminate all local spread.
